1st Holy Communion

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION at the SACRED HEART

First Holy Communion is celebrated at the Sacred Heart on the weekend of Corpus Christi.

Application forms are welcomed from Sunday Mass going families known to the worshipping community.

Children should be 7 or older when the preparation begins.

Preparation sessions take place after the 9.30am Mass on Sundays. The children follow their workbook with our catechists, Sandra and Peter.

Sessions won’t be held every week, but a timetable will be outlined when they begin.

The absolute deadline for applications is on the form so that books can be ordered and our catechists can prepare.

By that date, families need to return:
• The application form
• Diocesan Parental Consent Form
• £30 for the workbook and materials
• Proof of baptism [if baptised at Sacred Heart, the date is sufficient for us to check the records]

Preparation for the celebration of 1st Reconciliation and Communion is not simply preparation for a social occasion. It is a deeply spiritual occasion and a preparation for a way of life – a Catholic way of life.

Weekly attendance at Mass, attendance at classes as well as an up-to-date workbook will be prerequisites to celebrating First Holy Communion. Sports events, parties and other competing attractions must come second to the First Holy Communion programme and the regular attendance of Mass during the First Holy Communion year.
